I had Double Dragon 1, 2 & 3 on the NES and while 1 was a bit of a disappointment when compared to the arcade game, I still played through it... wow, a lot of times. And that does not even touch how many times I beat up on Double Dragon 2. Double Dragon 3? Eh, it was not bad I guess, but it never felt like a Double Dragon game.
Well, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on Double Dragon's arcade version on the Xbox 360 before it was pulled from circulation. Good bit of fortune there as I have beaten in a couple of dozen times by now (love the end fight music. Classic stuff).
So now I find myself really looking forward to Double Dragon: Neon. I find myself hoping that it goes off really well, and that eventually Double Dragon 2 gets a really nice remix as well.
In the meantime? This remix of the first game is slated for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as downloadable titles.
But in the meantime, enjoy the screenshots, video - and most importantly: tell me what you think. Interested or not?
I really want this to be good, but it looks kind of clunky. I believe it's still really early in development, so there's tons of time for refinement.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the trailer makes me question the game's speed/pace, but I'm really, REALLY hopeful here as I would love to see this do well and hopefully we can see more done with Double Dragon in general.
ReplyDeleteI had Double Dragon (1 & 2 I think) and Renegade on the NES and those were some great brawler times. I guess I don't have a console for this one, but it does look interesting.
ReplyDeleteI like the look, but agree that the demo seems a bit slow and clunky. Here's to hoping that is fixed and the game does well.
Haha, Renegade - that was good too. I played Double Dragon 2 sooooo many times.
ReplyDeleteSo, who recalls River City Ransom? Reason I ask is a) I loved the old NES game and b) there was an appearance by Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon (sort of) - and was probably one of the earliest 'crossovers' I can recall in a video game (the other one that springs to mind is Karnov as the first level boss in Bad Dudes).
After looking at some videos of DD1/2 it's coming back to me a bit. DD2 was definitely better.
ReplyDeleteI remember RcR by name as I probably played it a few times at a friends house. Don't remember many details though. I didn't know about the cameo's either.
That's funny you mention Karnov, I was thinking about it just a few days ago. Something along the lines of thinking how weird it and Kidd Niki was. I had no idea he was in Bad Dudes.
