Nothing special here, just randomly started to tweak my layout a bit today, then decided I hated the idea of doing THAT much re-tweaking. I went with a new, slightly light-themed banner at the top with more recent games I had been playing. Then, I thought about trying to change around the blog itself. Not hugely, but something lighter in color scheme. I started dabbling with images:
And after fiddling around with that base image, adding some fade, figuring out exactly where to code in the change in background... well, I was left with a dark banner, with a dark main body with light text that just looked grossly out of place against this lighter-toned background image.
And the downside to the major retooling of the blog I did a couple of months ago, is all of this stuff like the outlining, the boxes, the shading is html'd in, not quick switch and swap template items. Maybe eventually I'll get around to coming up with 3 or 4 seasonal designs and save them out for rotation or something, but for now? Just not going to happen. But maybe in a week or two if I get bored and have a few minutes to spare. Have yourselves a good one!

ReplyDeleteHmmm, time to take an HTML class refresher! The idea of having "seasonal designs" is pretty cool.
BTW, not sure if you had a post up earlier than you wanted, but one was showing up on my sidebar earlier today, but the link was "not valid" after clicking it.
Hey Coffee - So good to see you on your blog (and now mine again - you know, your email a long time ago was one of the two that kept me going at this, lol!)!
ReplyDeleteI've never taken any HTML classes (or C or anything really) - I just sort of pick it up by viewing and fiddling (and hundreds of thousands of lines later I had a MUD).
I do think though I'll invest a bit more time into coming up with 3 or 4 sort of seasonal layouts - maybe change the background image now and then but keep the same basic frameworks in place to be switched in and out as necessary.
Yeah, I accidentally posted something earlier I didn't mean to, and it was showing up as side bar. It was sort of a rough version of what I threw out there tonight. :)
I like the new banner, all great games in there! I've been thinking about re-doing my banner as well, I've gotten a little better at using GIMP.
ReplyDeleteI admire your bravery (and skill!) for diving into Blogger's HTML code editor to make your own layout. HTML drives me crazy, I can never seem to get a webpage to look how I want it to.
Looks good up there, I like it. I'm too lazy to mess with my design much as that's too much like work.
ReplyDeleteAbout that other post, yeah I'm up for some DoA Dimensions. Or you could just skip the contest and send it to me. :D
...and: holy crap, Coffee posted!
@Rob - thanks! I actually don't mind HTML all that much, but there was a lot of trial and error in getting this particular color scheme and layout done. I would probably stick to this layout, but dig up some all new color schemes for the main body of my blog. I think ideally I'll come up with 3-5, save out the codes and just swap in and out as needed, but I'm guessing to get the look I want, I'm looking at nearly a full day of tweaking to get that many layouts done and ready to roll.
ReplyDeleteGrins @ Robert - the DoA one - I admit I thought of you on that one, and yes - double holy crap - yay for seeing Coffee post!
"Yeah, I accidentally posted something earlier I didn't mean to, and it was showing up as side bar. It was sort of a rough version of what I threw out there tonight. :)"
ReplyDeleteUh huh, I see Robert seems to have caught the post as well...
Being that I don't own a 3DS (yet), and he spilled the beans...well, that should disqualify him right?
RUINER OF SURPRISES!
ROFL - well, there were other systems and games listed too. basically, seeing how big of a stack I have 'done' by the end of the month-ish, and still trying to hammer out what sorts of 'rules' I'd want on the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAlso? It's awesome seeing you back and posting, Coffee! :0)
"...and still trying to hammer out what sorts of 'rules' I'd want on the giveaway."
ReplyDeleteHere are a few 'rules' to help out:
Rule #1: Robert is disqualified
Rule #2: See rule #1
Always glad to be of help!
@Coffee - Oh! I like those rules. Any objections (from people who aren't Robert?)
ReplyDeleteAnyone? :)
@coffee: Those are some big words for someone without a 3DS.. :)
ReplyDeleteI tell ya, tough room, tough room.
