There were a lot of games I meant to play in 2012 and just never got around to. Some, I simply never bought. Others I purchased and still never got around to - so I have even less of an excuse. Some of the games released this year, some in years past.
Halo 4 - My first game in the Halo series was Reach, but man did I enjoy that one. I have recently started playing Anniversary Edition (so it gets to narrowly avoid this list) and have been enjoying that title as well. I do plan to get this one, but probably not until early next year when the price drops (and hopefully giving me a chance to finish Anniversary while playing Halo 3, ODST and Wars, all of which I picked up cheaply this year as well, but have not yet gotten to).
Ar Tonelico Qoga - Technically, I have started this rather quirky JRPG, but only just barely before getting distracted by newer, shinier games. I still have it and the box sitting next to my PS3 though, and it will become one of my Christmas objectives to really play.
NBA 2K13 - I am a huge fan of the NBA 2K games, and probably pick up and play 2 out of every 3 that release. Apparently this year was the 1 in 3, because I never bought it, and probably will not get to it this year despite all of the nice things I have been reading about it since it came out.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - My youngest picked this game up last year (or maybe the year before?) with her birthday money and both she and my son seemed to enjoy it. I just never got around to it. I just tried to put it in the other day to finally give it a go, but a deep, long set of scratches kept the disc from reading. Right now - 50/50 odds I will get around to replacing it since I do not know if I would get around to playing it any time soon or not.
Record of Agarest War 2 - One of my earliest games I reviewed on this site was record of Agarest War. Like Ar Tonelico Qoga, it is definitely a niche title, but I enjoyed both Agarest War and the later released prequel, Zero. I just never got around to buying Agarest War 2, but my plan is to pick it up and give it a go sometime in 2013.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina in Time - Two Zelda games on here? Don't even get me started on how I never got around to playing Twilight Princess either... it is odd because I played and absolutely loved the first wo Zelda games when they came out for the NES. And yet somehow between then and now, I have pretty much missed the rest - something I keep trying to rectify. Arguably one of the best-rated games for the 3DS, I do intend to play this guy and beat it, but that just has not happened yet.
The Last Story & Xenoblade Chronicles & Pandora's Tower - All three of these games created quite the stir as Nintendo held off releasing them here in the US. All three look cool for different reasons and all three seem like an excellent reason to dust off my Wii. To date however, I have not picked up a single one.
Dead or Alive 5 - I enjoyed DoA 4 quite a bit on the Xbox 360 when it came out early in the console's life, and I thought Dimensions was an incredibly slick 3DS title, both in the combat as well as the visuals. I have been following DoA 5 most of the year, but still have not had a chance to pick it up and play it.
Dead Space 2 - I loved the first game. The third looks really cool. So why haven't I actually picked up Dead Space 2 to play it? No real good reason I can think of - just other games coming up first.
What games hit your backlog and never made it off in 2012? Any titles you wanted to purchase, thought about purchasing, and just did not get around to it? I'd love to hear!

» Games I meant to play in 2012, but never got around to
Oh, man. My list of 2012 games I never got around to playing is huge. Some I haven't played because I haven't picked up. Others, I haven't played because I don't have the system. I'd love to play Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U but I just don't have the funds to pick up the machine.
ReplyDeleteI have all of these systems for the games I listed - in a few cases I have the games. (no Wii U yet for me though) - thanks for dropping by!
ReplyDeleteI have A LOT of games sitting around now, either from Humble Bundles, or gifts/loans. Killzone 3, Far Cry 2, and a few more on the PS3 are waiting to be played/finished (started FC2, but not far into it). I still have a few Wii games basically untouched and sealed. The Force Unleashed 2 and Metroid: Other M being the untouched ones. Now there is the Wii U, and our collection is growing A LOT faster than I imagined...
ReplyDeleteAs for Pandora's Tower, unfortunately Nintendo never released that one for us in the U.S., or Disaster: Day of Crisis. Both of which I thought would have been great ways to promote the Nintendo Selects brand. Bring them over at $20 during a holiday season (last year, preferably) and promote them with the Nintendo Selects titles at $20 as great stocking stuffer ideas. They both would have landed on my list day one.
I was pretty surprised that Pandora's Tower didn't make it, just because the other two operation rainfall games did. Sadly I don't anticipate nintendo doing much of anything w/ those types of titles now (re-release metroid collection? puh-lease?)
ReplyDeleteFC2 is one my son started and said he liked, but didn't get too far into.
you should spend a weekend on Metroid; other M. good game and it can be beaten in less than a dozen hours roughly.
Thanks for dropping by!
I've been trying to get in Zelda for pretty much as long as I can remember too >.< I know OOT has so much hype around it and people worship it as the god-king of gaming, but I never went into the game with any expectation as I really think that's always setting yourself up for a disappointment But for some reason no matter how hard I try I can't get into that game, I love adventure games, I love traditional combat and platforming and puzzle solving but Zelda just never registers with any of my 'Fun' nerves, it's a real shame, and my loss really.
ReplyDeleteMy only memory of Halo is being peer pressured into buying it back in 2007 and realizing that I was absolutely terrible and died constantly (might have had something to do with the fact that I was twelve) so I'm not overly keen on the idea of playing Halo 4 xD
On my list for games I wanted to play this year but didn't is most notably Kingdom Hearts, a title which has been on that list for a record-breaking five years D:
I too have never played a KH game. I have a few around my house but my oldest is the only one who plays them. I have one for the GBA, one for the PSP and one for the DS currently. Yet another series of games I would probably enjoy a ton, but just haven't tried.
ReplyDeleteSkyward Sword and Dead Space 2 were both on my list as I've owned them for over a year now and really want to play them but for some reason end up playing other things.
ReplyDeleteI actually started Pandora's Tower and enjoyed what I played but had just finished Last Story so didn't want another epic game so soon, really must get back to it.
