Renowned Explorers: International Society - PC Review
Renowned explorers is probably one of the quirkier games I’ve played this year. It’s complicated and difficult enough to keep you interested and always pushing to improve, while the story lines and combat keep you smiling.

Not a whole lot has been shown of the upcoming Saint Seiya: Soldier's Soul game, but we have a few new art assets and a quick trailer that was shown off at TGS.
Mad Max - PS4 Review
I went into Mad Max really hoping I would enjoy it. Shadow of Mordor was great last year. I love GTA. Bits and pieces of the open world environment, systems, violence - all of it should have clicked for me, but it just never quite did. I spent an extra week and a half playing through the game before writing this review, hoping against hope that the experience would improve for me, but it never did.
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - Retro Reflections
In Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars you play as George Stobbart, an American tourist who gets involved in an international conspiracy after a murder takes place in front of his eyes in Paris. The conspiracy has to do with two opposing, powerful organizations dating back to the Medieval Times. One of them is the monastic order of the Knights Templar, who were convicted by the Inquisition and executed brutally. The other is the Assassins, a group of devoted, highly effective killers from the Middle East. Thankfully, you are not alone in this endeavor· a young French photojournalist, Nico, is interested in the case and helps you.
Who wants a look at some Project X Zone 2 info and assets?
Simply put: I do! I was a big fan of the original game upon its release on the 3DS, so I am quite curious to see where this sequel goes.
Inside Out - Movie Review
I neglected to watch Inside Out for weeks until a friend of mine told me he saw it with his two sons and enjoyed it. So, I bought a ticket and went to the local cinema.
Cross of the Dutchman - PC Review
Art forms often enough take inspiration from reality in order to construct something special. Cross of the Dutchman from Triangle Studios is one such title that takes pages out of the history books in order to tell a tale of a man’s life that is shrouded in legends. Having started a rebellion in order to fight back the Saxons that would otherwise subjugate them all, players will get to experience the early days of Pier Gerlofs Donia in an Action Adventure format with great dialog and a smooth gameplay system.
Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! - PC Review
Holy Potatoes! Another Simulation Game?! Aside from sounding like something Robin Boy Wonder might remark on a cheesy television show, this game shoulders more than its fair share of puntastic humour. It’s Recettear or Atelier Rorona, but instead of an anime-esque fantasy world, you have flash animation level artwork and a game that does not begin to try to take itself seriously. By design.

It Follows - Movie Review
I am not a fan of slasher movies and haven’t watched the “Exorcist” either; I am in favor of “light” horror, for example “The Conjuring”. “It follows” doesn’t fall in either of these sub-genres because, though it lacks blood and gore, it emits creepiness until the last shot.
Solar Shifter EX - PC Review
Solar Shifter EX is a case of style over substance, with gorgeous environments spread out over eighteen very difficult levels. It does not necessarily bring much new to the table, but the overall experience is a solid if unspectacular one that should appeal to fans of the shmup genre.
Defend the Highlands - PC Preview
Defend the Highlands is an interesting title that bridges the gap between tower defense and real-time strategy. Tower defense generally feels like a subset of the RTS genre, but here it blurs a few more lines in creating a game that is wacky and entertaining.

SMITE - Xbox One Review
I have become something of a MOBA fanatic over the last year. I have come to expect certain things from the genre, which made me skeptical that it would translate well to the Xbox One because of the controller interface. I am happy to say that SMITE works very well on the Xbox One, and is an absolute blast to play.
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel - Retro Reflections
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel takes place in America after it has been devastated by a nuclear holocaust. The scattered survivors struggle to rebuild civilization while dealing with radiation, bandits and mutated beasts. The Brotherhood of Steel is a group of heavily armed men and women, devoted to bringing order to the chaos of the post-apocalyptic world.
Pixels - Movie Review
Movies based on video games don’t have a good history. So, what happens when you make a movie inspired by very old games that don’t even have a proper storyline or locations to use? You get Pixels.
Stasis - PC Review
Stasis looks like an old school isometric RPG game, but it is actually a carefully crafted science fiction/horror title with a lot of excellent writing that helps to offset its occasionally frustrating puzzles.
Almightree: The Last Dreamer - PC Review
Almightree: The Last Dreamer is a good example of how well a mobile based title can perform when being ported to something like a PC. Using either a keyboard or a controller, fast thinking is going to be required in this puzzle platformer as there is no time to sit around smelling the flowers with the entire whole world literally crumbling around you.
A look at Might & Magic Heroes VII a week before it releases
The strategy/RPG genre is still among my favorites and I have spent hundreds of hours on the games from the Might & Magic Heroes series - making this upcoming version of the game one I am incredibly interested in.
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance - PS4 Review
Disgaea is back with its usual collection of over-the-top characters, ridiculous humor and of course, mountains of serious strategy. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance introduces the long running series to the PlayStation 4 and the transition is a fantastic one. There is an absolute ton of different things to do and if you don't mind a little (or a lot) of grinding in your strategy games, you will find your time here to be well spent as Disgaea 5 is in the running for my game of the year.
Super Mario Maker - Wii U Review
It's Super Mario! I would have killed for something like this when I was a kid. I always had a tendency to latch onto games with creation elements, and that really has not changed over the years. Super Mario Maker is almost exactly what I wanted thirty years ago. Better late than never!
Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion - PC Review
Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion is a solid tactical game, but its roleplaying elements are light, leading to a bit of a missed opportunity. Thankfully the tactical combat holds up quite well, making this title worth a peek for fans of fantasy tactics games.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - Movie Review
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. reminds me of Hitman: a top agent helps a courageous woman to find her missing scientist father, whose highly advanced work is involved in a nefarious plan. As in Hitman, her father remains unseen during most of the movie and her role changes suddenly after a certain point. However, U.N.C.L.E. is different, as it takes place during the Cold War and there are two agents protecting the woman, an American and a Soviet.
Celestian Tales: Old North - PC Review
Kickstarters have been all the rage of late for the funding of projects that would most likely never see the light of day without them. Celestian Tales: Old North is one such title from Ekuator Games that is a throwback to an older RPG era of gaming. With beautiful hand drawn designs, players choose one of six Nobles to control as they make it through Squire Training in order to better serve their realm.
Zombie Vikings - PS4 Review
The visuals and humor will make an impression, though the combat is simply good and the end result is solid if not spectacular. Zombie Vikings makes a good impression and is a welcome addition to the beat-'em-up genre, but does not do much to set itself apart outside of the graphic style.

Hitman: Agent 47 - Movie Review
The Hitman movie of 2007 was based on the famous video game series with a genetically enhanced assassin known as agent 47. It was not a success but I liked it, because I adore Olga Kurylenko and appreciated the violent action and unpredictable interaction between the hero and the woman he saved.
Warhammer 40,000: Regicide - PC Review
Chess is already a very strategic game, but when you mix new elements in, you have an opportunity to turn those tactics on their head and create something fresh with them. While there are some rough edges here and there, Warhammer 40,000: Regicide delivers a solid experience for chess and strategy game fans.
Memorable Music in Gaming #12
This week we have something of a rarity - each of our games comes from a different platform. They also tend to be of the retro variety (though not all). The styles are quite contrasting, from bright and playful to tense, suspenseful fare.

Amnesia: Memories - PC Review
Amnesia: Memories is a beautifully drawn visual novel that is a bit of a departure from Idea Factory's standard lineup of game types. Fortunately for those of us that enjoy a solid visual novel, they knock this one out of the part. Amnesia: Memories thrusts you into the role of a young woman who had been minding her own business as she wandered down a busy street where she was then struck by a Spirit which in turn causes the protagonist to suffer from amnesia. As Amnesia: Memories is a dating sim/romance visual novel there will be plenty of laughs and tears as you woo your way into a romantic relationship with one of five suitors in this spectacular game.
Gryphon Knight Epic - PC Review
Gryphon Knight Epic is a Horizontal 2D Shoot ‘Em Up that does a few things a bit differently than the norm. Drawing in certain elements of platformers, there’s much more to this Gryphon Riding Knight of Justice as he traverses the land to not only save it and his once companions, but also himself from a Darkness he left behind.
Whispering Willows - Xbox One Review
Whispering Willows is a different kind of horror game, because it is not trying to nail you with cheap jump scares, but in fact is trying to craft a haunting story - a supernatural tale of suspense. The visuals are charming, the story is well written and this is an adventure game worth playing for fans of the genre.

Vacation - Movie Review
I am not sure how a comedy should be judged. If someone steps on a banana peel and falls people will laugh but this isn’t comedy. Unfortunately, today films are full of jokes concerning the digestive or reproduction systems of the human (or even animal) body. So, I have lowered my expectations from this specific movie genre.
Shadowrun: Hong Kong - PC Review
With anxiety bubbling up in the pit of your stomach you step off the rickety, lean-to ferry into the faint light of Hong Kong. Your companions await you at the dock, socked to the bone by the near-constant drizzle and obscured by the sickly grey-green smog that washes over the lower quarters of Hong Kong. As you make your first step out onto the dock your stomach lurches, upset by the refuse of Hong Kong's seedy underbelly and the "complimentary dinner" of instant noodles full of who-knows-what that tasted like it was well beyond its expiry date … "Welcome to Hong Kong" you grumble to yourself as you move towards those waiting for you… Welcome to Shadowrun: Hong Kong that is; a throwback to classic turn-based roleplaying games. Set in the same universe/timeline as the previous games, Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong leaves its wildly successful Kickstarter and Early Access campaign and strikes out with more vigor than anyone could have hoped for. Shadowrun: Hong Kong is without a doubt the best in this rebooted series as it is positively dripping with atmosphere, characters, a deep story of corporate greed and societal dysfunction.
SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse - Hardware Review
SteelSeries is a well-known name in the gaming world as it provides some of the best gaming gear for a competitive price. While we have covered a number of different pieces, the Siberia Elite Anniversary Edition headset really set the bar as it was Chalgyr's Game Room's first ever perfect score and since then each new piece of gear has continued to impress. We were recently able to try out the SteelSeries Rival, a very competitively priced gaming mouse powered by SteelSeries Engine 3 with all the bits-and-bobs one has come to expect out of *the premiere* peripheral manufacturer. What we found was a well-priced and feature-heavy mouse that did more than just "get the job done."
Femme Focused Fighter Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! to be released on Steam on September 29!!!!!
That is a lot of exclamation marks - but you know what? They're appropriate as I was a big fan of this game when it came out on PS3 previously.
Shelter 2 - PC Review
To me, the mark of a great game it one that delivers a unique experience that stays with you. They’re the ones that make you fall in love with the characters, dish out emotional trauma with their story lines, give you that arm hair raising moment of awe, or make you think. There are of course times where you just want to wreak utter havoc and destroy things in a blood soaked haze for a few hours without much thought as to why you’re storming a creepy ruin waving a comically large meat poker; and there are some good games that give you that. However, the ones that truly stand out are the games that tug at your heart strings in some way. Shelter 2 doesn’t just tug at the heart strings though; it gives them a good yank then plays them like a cello.
All Guns On Deck - PC Preview
Just look at that list of genres: Action, Adventure, RPG, Strategy and Simulation. It's like video game soup where you add a bit of everything and let is simmer for a while. This can be a challenge, but one that so far All Guns On Deck appears to be up to. It has some flaws, but the early returns are promising at this stage.
Mionix Castor Gaming Mouse - Hardware Review
Mionix has come out of nowhere to become one of the more prestigious computer peripheral manufacturers that we at Chalgyr's Game Room have seen. With a strong focus on ergonomics, incredibly high build standards, and some of the best-performing gear we have seen, Mionix is continuously surprising us with their newest equipment. Our previous review of a Mionix mouse could not have been better as it scored a perfect ten and we managed to get our hands on the latest performance mouse from Mionix, the Castor and have taken it for quite the spin.

The Transporter Refueled - Movie Review
When I saw the poster of the “Transporter Refueled” I wondered “where is Jason Statham?”. Then I read it was a reboot, so I understood a new actor was hired. The story is about an extremely skilled driver who makes dangerous transportations for people with a lot of money and a need for secrecy. This time, however, he accepts a job that is not what it seems and will have him deal with the underworld of the French Riviera.
Blues and Bullets - Episode 1: The End of Peace - Xbox One Review
Blues and Bullets has an immediately familiar feel to how it plays, despite a unique visual impression that helps it to stand apart from other games. More importantly, it sets the stage for what promises to be an interesting investigation. Episodic games need a successful first episode to keep people hooked and coming back for more. Mission accomplished.
Armello - PS4 Review
Armello has the potential to be remembered as a daring mixture of board game and video game. Clearly there were chances taken, but the design holds up and the game is enthralling - especially with friends. Not everything worked as well as it could have, but for those of us who like board games but do not want to hassle with rule management, Armello might be the perfect solution.
