A lot of things can make a video game memorable to gamers. A fantastic soundtrack, amazing graphics, characters and stories that you genuinely care about are all valid reasons to look back at a time spent with a game fondly. However, there's simply something to be said about achieving some sort of victory in a game. Maybe it's beating the game itself, handling a secret boss, a difficult achievement or just bragging rights over your friends. Here's a handful of our team's favorite in-game victories.

Tekken 3
This game is special for two reasons:
1. It was the first game I ever played to the end credits.
2. I did it under serious time pressure.
So here’s the setup: We had a flight to catch—early morning, around 7 AM. I’d been up all night playing Hwoarang (my go-to), but kept getting wrecked by the tougher opponents. We had to leave by 5:30 AM max, and I made it my mission to clear the game before then.
Somehow, I pulled it off. Mere minutes before my mom dragged me away from the PlayStation and into the car, I watched Hwoarang’s Rival ending play out. Easily one of my core childhood memories.

Demon's Souls
Beating OG Demon's Souls on PS3 was a hugely satisfying victory for me. My first Soulslike, and it felt good to finally complete. Specifically Old King Allant and his bullshit Z attack level drain. My first attempt I lost 8 levels to him. I'm still mad about that fight to this day.

Bloodborne
Getting the platinum trophy for Bloodborne was ridiculous for me. It took me years. Years!
The hardest part was the chalice dungeons to get to the super secret boss. These were harder than the final boss as when I got to that room and damn near cleared the fight in 3 hits? I was laughing and almost crying at the ridiculousness that this uber scary boss was actually nothing compared to the nightmares leading up to her.

Mortal Kombat - arcade
Arcades. Loved going to them, and loved bringing my kids with me. However, this one time I had a night to myself and went to play Mortal Kombat. On those arcade machines I have a relatively easy time with combo moves, but would mix up the fatal ones most times. Those controllers on NES and Playstation nowadays? Combos and my fingers never meet! So, when I ended up finally beating Sub Zero with Scorpion's FATALITY move? That was THE best feeling ever! I think it was also the first time not thinking of my shyness and actually jumping up and down punching my fists in the air for winning that match.

Final Fantasy XIII-2's platinum trophy
Firstly, I just loved the game. I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures found in the XIII trilogy (even if the last one wasn’t properly named as such), so it was enjoyable. This was not really a hard game, but it was also one of the first platinum trophies I had ever gotten on PlayStation. It was the first ‘real’ one – I had a couple of other easy ones prior to that, but this was a time sync, but I remember seeing this thing pop and putting a huge smile on my face and unlike so many of the grueling stories shared by the team here. I loved my time with this adventure and the platinum trophy was just the cherry on top at the end.

Victory 3 - Baldur’s Gate 3 - Act 2 Boss fight
I grew up playing computer games, card games, puzzle games, and tabletop games. So when everyone was over the moon about Baldur’s Gate 3, I took notice. I managed to get a copy of the game about a week after its release and I absolutely adored it. BG3 has such epic character development, interweaving story arcs, ability to go full ham or be a sneaky, and lore out the wazzoo. There’s a couple of stand out moments that I can’t help but mention. A small victory that is still big in my books was the encounter with the ogres in the Blighted Village where I succeeded on rolling a natural 20.
The real victory in BG3 was the Act 2 final boss fight. Due to my play style, I managed to do certain things which completely negated half of the fight. I also killed the person with only one attempt, meaning, I didn’t have to save scum it. Later I learned that I had done something that other people I know who have done multiple playthroughs didn’t know! What a wild revelation that was! But considering I had never played Baldur’s Gate before, this was an epic victory!
